August Walla’s potential, his commercially non-strategic urge to create, and his far-reaching artistic freedom are exemplary of the fascination of Art Brut.  In the large-scale presentation in 2012, one of the most impressive artist personalities—not only among the Gugging Artists, but of the 20th century in general—was honored in all his facets: as draftsman and painter, text and typeface experimenter, Object and Land Art artist, photographer and documenter of his own graffiti works and installations. 

museum gugging exhibited the most comprehensive monographic show of this artist up to that time.  Across 1300 square meters, around 400 works were presented from all creative phases and styles. 

The show was accompanied by a box that comprised a hand-bound facsimile volume of his handwritten and typed text, a facsimile painting and sketchbook, and two picture books.
