In the exhibition navratil's ARTISTS’ GUESTBOOK.!  in 2015, museum gugging exhibited Leo Navratil’s artists’ guestbook for the first time, all pages included.  A facsimile of this historic artists’ book was published as a catalog to accompany the show. 

From the mid-1950s onward, Leo Navratil was a psychiatrist at the “Gugging Sanatorium and Mental Hospital”, where, in the Sixties, he introduced the drawing test that he had encountered in England.  Drawing was worked into the everyday routine through this test.

Leo Navratil used an art book given away by the pharma concern Bayer and containing colorful glued-in illustrations as a drawing template for the Gugging Artists.  Soon, however, he removed the glued-in reproductions and the “artist patients” drew on the blank pages.  He also asked visiting artists to leave behind drawings, texts, or dedications in this book. Thus, for example, on one of the pages at various times, Johann Hauser created several drawings on one and the same theme.

At the request of the collector in possession of it, the book was taken apart, thereby allowing the presentation of the individual pages.  The accompanying facsimile preserved its integrity.

Besides Gugginger Künstlern, Arnulf Rainer, Franz Ringel, Georg Eisler, Peter Pongratz, Alfred Hrdlicka, Gert Jonke, Eduard Angeli, and Loys EGG were represented.
