ingolf ebeling.! the sunray millionaire

museum gugging presents a selection from The Sunbray Millionaire, a completed project by the German-born artist Ingolf Ebeling, whose work is closely linked to Gugging. Realised over a period of more than fifteen years, the project was previously presented in excerpts in an earlier exhibition.

The work comprises 42,607 postcards, each depicting a square-shaped sun with a mathematically calculated combination of rays whose total number amounts to exactly one million. The individual cards follow a rigorous system that takes into account every possible distribution of one to thirty rays, resulting in a unique configuration on each card.

museum gugging has previously presented parts of this monumental body of work, including a major exhibition featuring around 2,000 postcards in 2013/2014. The current presentation reveals the full scope of this extraordinary long-term project, which brings together art, time, and mathematical precision in a compelling and remarkable way.
