Description
On Saturday, 9 May, we warmly invite all families to a very special afternoon of storytelling and hands-on activities! In a cosy atmosphere, children aged 0 to 10, together with their accompanying adults, can listen to the wonderful children’s book author Julia Saarinen. She will present her enchanting book “Olaf Hoppel and the Secret Language”—a story that beautifully weaves the topic of sign language into a captivating narrative.
At the heart of the story is Olaf the rabbit, who is deaf despite his long ears. When he joins a school for hearing children, he initially feels misunderstood and lonely. But then Olaf’s special “secret language” sparks the curiosity of his classmates. Suddenly, everyone wants to connect with Olaf and becomes fascinated by his world.
Through this unique language, Olaf forms wonderful friendships and shows just how important understanding truly is.
In her book, Julia Saarinen addresses a theme that is highly relevant for both children and adults alike: the appreciation and inclusion of people with different abilities. Olaf’s story conveys, in a playful and sensitive way, how sign language can build bridges and how important it is to listen to and understand one another.
In addition to the reading, there will also be opportunities to talk with Julia Saarinen, ask questions, and learn more about sign language. The afternoon will also offer creative activities for parents and children to explore the topic in a playful way—we have put together a very special programme for this purpose.
Admission to this event is free, but registration is required as places are limited.
