city river art

The bike tour starts at the main entrance of Vienna Main Station. The route Laxenburg Radweg / EuroVelo 9 passes by subway station Südtiroler Platz. Follow Wiednergürtel ca. 100 metres and cross the main street at the next intersection. The route leads down Argentinierstraße to Karlsplatz. Turn right towards Schwarzenbergplatz and then left towards the Ringstraße (2.3 km).

Turn left onto the Ringstraße – on either side of the street – follow the scenic path along the State Opera, Heldenplatz, and the Burgtheater until you arrive at the Danube Canal. Turn left onto the Weinviertel Radweg / EuroVelo 9 at Franz-Josefs-Kai (5.7 km) and follow the bike path along the canal to Nordsteg (9.9 km). Continue west for ca. 1 km where the route joins with the Danube Cycle Path at Heiligenstadt (10.8 km). Follow the Danube Cycle Path past the Kuchelau yacht harbour to Klosterneuburg (15 km).

Around Klosterneuburg the route leads away from the Danube river, often through swamp areas. In Kierling you can make a detour towards Maria Gugging and pay us a visit at museum gugging. When you are in the mood for a longer journey, follow the Danube Cycle Path to Greifenstein where you see the Danube again. Many choose to continue on to the goal of the day in Tulln (39 km), where you can catch trains at the railway station.

Duration: 3 – 3.5 hrs
