August Walla was one of the most flamboyant, multifaceted, and
fascinating artistic personalities in Gugging. In 2019 museum
gugging devotes special attention to the textiles, photographs,
and writings of this all-round artist. The departure point for Walla’s
artistic work is a self-created, private mythological universe: Gods,
an own language, emblems and symbols whirl around in his cosmos.
The vastness of Walla’s artistic content is complemented
by the diversity of media the artist employed. Besides paintings
and drawings, there are numerous works in textiles, photography,
and written word, which form an indispensible part of August
Walla’s oeuvre and make him one of the most versatile artists of
the twentieth century.
