Minimum and maximum. The Gugging Artist Oswald Tschirtner (1920–2007) stands for both as his work contrasts a maximum of expression with a minimum of form and colour. The centrepiece of Tschirtner’s art is his abstract representations of humans – the unmistakeable “headfooters”, which confront the observer without recognisable gender characteristics or clothing. He was able to create intriguing works with just a few lines and occasional dabs of colour. The graphic oeuvre of this artist is distinguished by its fragility and poetry. Oswald Tschirtner counts amongst the most esteemed and successful artists from Gugging. In 2020 he would celebrate his 100th birthday. A perfect occasion for museum gugging to dedicate a comprehensive show to this great tranquil artist.
