marianne maderna in dialogue with the artists from gugging

museum gugging is proud to present an artistic intervention by Marianne Maderna.

HUHUMAN is what Marianne Maderna calls her flat, hanging figures made of fluorescent plexiglass that are juxtaposed in the exhibition galleries with masterpieces executed by the Artists from Gugging. Hung in small groups, Maderna’s sculptures represent recurring, archetypical patterns of behavior. The different facets of human nature are put on display in a relentless manner. The HUHUMAN are a mirror of society: They serve to provide an impulse to reflect, a warning against vanities and inanities, and they are simultaneously meant to preserve us from disaster.

Contemporary artists have followed the Artists from Gugging and their work with keen interest since their drawings were first published by the psychiatrist Leo Navratil in the sixties. Maderna’s artistic intervention offers its audience a unique opportunity to take part in this fascinating and vibrant dialogue between creators of art.

Marianne Maderna was born in Vienna in 1944 and lives and works in Vienna and Lower Austria. She uses her interdisciplinary practice to thematize socially relevant questions relating to the human condition.
